National Instruments NI-9481E C Series Relay Output Module

Equipped with four channels, the NI-9481E (part number: 780538-01) is the board only version of the NI-9481 Electromechanical Relay Output Module from National Instruments. Designed with a single-pole, single-throw (SPST) relay, the NI-9481E is compatible with any NI cDAQ or cRIO chassis. Each channel of this versatile module is built with an electromechanical relay that allows for signal switching to a maximum of 30 VDC (2 A), 60 VDC (1 A), or 250 VAC (2 A). The NI-9481E enables the user to connect directly with a range of industrial instruments, including DC instruments, actuators, and motors.

Designed for connectivity, the NI-9481E features a detachable 10 screw-terminal connector. Each relay channel of the module has two interchangeable terminals, CHa and CHb. In order to attach a load to the NI-9481E, the positive lead should be connected to either of these terminals, while the ground should be attached to one of the leads of the power supply. The remaining CHa or CHb terminal should be connected to the other lead of the power supply. In addition, each channel is equipped with an LED indicator that provides insight into the status of the channel at a glance. When the LED is lit, the channel is active- and one the LED is dark, it indicates that the channel is off. When the chassis is in sleep mode, the LEDs of the NI-9481E’s channels are nonoperational.

The chassis of the NI-9481E draws in a maximum power consumption of 580 mW when in active mode and a maximum consumption of 5 mW when in sleep mode. The screw-terminal wiring of the module uses copper conductor wire and measures 12 to 24 AWG with 10 mm (0.39 in.) of insulation stripped from the end. The torque for the screw terminals of the relay output module measures 0.5 to 0.6 N · m (4.4 to 5.3 lb · in.).

Intended for indoor use only, the NI-9481E has an operating temperature range of –40 to 70 °C and a storage temperature range of -40 to 85 °C. The module weighs in at 150 g (5.3 oz).
