NI-9753, 8-Channel, Differential Digital I/O Module
National Instruments NI-9753 C Series Differential Digital I/O Module
The NI-9753 (Part number: 782133-02) comes with a CompactRIO module with eight separately controlled inputs/outputs. Every I/O channel utilizes an RS485/422 compatible differential transceiver with a voltage range encompassing 0 V to 5 V. If the channels are configured as outputs, they can be controlled by a user-customized Boolean logic. The channels can also be controlled by specialized fuel and spark Vis which come with the NI 9753, but in this case, they need an Engine Position Tracking (EPT) VI. The outputs do not drive adequate current for driving fuel injectors or ignition coils. However, if the channels are configured as inputs, within the LabVIEW FPGA application, the Boolean signals can be utilized as general-purpose Boolean Trigger signals.
The NI-9753 Differential Digital I/O Module needs power from two sources: the CompactRIO backplane male high-density D-SUB 15-pin (HD15) connector and the external DB-37 connector. The C Series Differential Digital I/O Module should be powered at the HD15 connector by plugging it into an R Series Expansion Chassis or a CompactRIO. Also, keep in mind the HD15 connector should not be connected to another device. The NI-9923 Connector Kit can be utilized for connections to the NI 9753, supplying the correct strain relief.
For overvoltage protection, the RS485 input/output pins of the NI-9753 can be shorted to ground, shorted together, or shorted to -7 V to +12 V without harming the channels. The RS485 input/output pins can handle ±50 V, 15 µs wide, 1% duty cycle pulses with a minimum 100 Ω resistance without becoming impaired.
