National Instruments 785958-01 FlexRIO Digitizer Device (AC)

The National Instruments 785958-01 (PCle-5764) is an advanced AC variant FlexRIO digitizer designed for high-performance data acquisition and processing. This device features four voltage input channels with a 16-bit analog input resolution while delivering a maximum sample rate of 1 GS/s. This instrument enables simultaneous sampling across all four channels, which makes it ideal for applications that require high-speed and high-accuracy data capture.

The NI 785958-01 device features a reconfigurable KU040 FPGA. The device is also available in multiple FPGA configurations. The KU040 FPGA offers 242,200 LUTs, 1,920 DSP48 slices, and 21.1 Mb of embedded block RAM. It supports various data transfer methods such as DMA, interrupts, programmed I/O, and multi-gigabit transceivers. With up to 60 DMA channels, the device ensures efficient and rapid data handling. The default timebase of 80 MHz and onboard 100 MHz oscillator provides reliable clocking, while the module's capability to revert to a default FPGA personality protects it from power overdraw scenarios.

The device's digital I/O capabilities consist of high-speed serial multi-gigabit transceivers (MGT) with data rates ranging from 500 Mb/s to 16.375 Gb/s. It includes four Tx channels with a minimum differential output voltage of 170 mV peak-to-peak into 100 Ω. The channels are AC-coupled with a 100 nF capacitor. The digital I/O section offers eight single-ended channels, supporting voltage families of 3.3 V, 2.5 V, 1.8 V, 1.5 V, and 1.2 V. These channels are bidirectional, with per-channel direction control and a maximum output toggle rate of 60 MHz.

The 785958-01 uses an ADS54J69 ADC with a 16-bit resolution for analog input for high-fidelity signal capture. It supports both AC and DC input coupling through SMA connectors with a 50 Ω input impedance. The internal and external sample clocks operate at 500 MHz, ensuring precise and stable sampling. The device's signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR), and effective number of bits (ENOB) are optimized for high-frequency inputs.

The power consumption of the model depends upon the LabVIEW FPGA VI used in the application. This 785958-01 FlexRIO digitizer consumes 75 W of power. The onboard DRAM consists of 4 GB (2 banks of 2 GB) with a DRAM clock rate of 1064 MHz and a physical bus width of 32 bits. This configuration supports a maximum theoretical data rate of 17 GB/s, which facilitates high-speed data processing and storage. The PCI Express Gen-3 x8 interface of this part ensures high-bandwidth communication with the host system. It is compatible with x8 and x16 slots. 

The NI 785958-01 can operate at altitudes up to 2,000 meters with an operating temperature range of 0 °C to 45 °C and a humidity range of 10% to 90% RH. It features an integrated fan for efficient cooling. The overall dimensions of this device are 12.6 cm × 26.3 cm × 4 cm (5.0 in. × 10.4 in. × 1.6 in.).
