National Instruments 777158-01 PCI-GPIB Controller Board
The National Instruments 777158-01 is an IEEE 488.2 (GPIB) PCI-controller that will enable you to connect your GPIB instrumentation with your computer system via a PCI bus. The 777158-01 employs two central ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits), the PCI-MITE and the TNT, to handle all of the interactions between the PCI bus and connected GPIB instruments. The PCI-MITE manages the full compliance for the PCI Specification 2.1 by decoding the address and control signals for the PCI bus and providing onboard register access and ROM access. The TNT performs the basic IEEE 488 Talker, Listener, and Controller functions as specified in all IEEE 488 version standards. The 777158-01 can be configured through software and has plug-and-play capabilities, allowing for easy hardware installation with no jumper or DIP switch configurations.
The 777158-01 supports two types of data transfer modes. With standard IEEE 488.1 three-wire interlocked handshake, it achieves a maximum data transfer rate greater than 1.5 Mb/s. If supported by its connecting device(s), the 777158-01 will activate HS488 (National Instrument's proprietary non-interlocked handshake protocol ratified under ANSI/IEEE Standard 488.1-2003), which enables data transfer rates to exceed 7.7 Mb/s. HS488 operates "transparently," and if any of the active listeners on the GPIB bus do not support HS488, the 777158-01 will automatically fall back to the standard three-wire handshake mode without any need for software modifications. Therefore, this capability provides backward compatibility with both legacy and contemporary GPIB instruments so that they may be operated in unison from a single PC.
The 777158-01 is used in a wide variety of automated test & measurement applications, laboratory instrumentation systems, industrial data acquisition systems, and many others in which a number of IEEE 488-compatible instruments (such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, programmable power supplies, etc.) are needed to be controlled from a single PC. It is compatible with NI-488.2 drivers for Windows and Solaris platforms and therefore facilitates seamless integration into NI development environments like LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, etc.
