National Instruments 779354-01 GPIB Controller for USB
The National Instruments 779354-01 is a compact GPIB-to-USB controller that allows a USB-equipped PC or laptop to control IEEE 488.2 instruments. Measuring 4.2 × 2.6 × 1.0 inches, the controller can connect to as many as 14 GPIB instruments. A built-in 2-meter USB cable connects the controller to the host computer, while the GPIB connector provides the connection to the instrument network. The unit is bus powered, so no separate power supply is required.
The 779354-01 supports standard GPIB controller functions, including talker/listener operation, serial and parallel polling, service requests, and pass-through control. It supports USB 1.1 Full-Speed operation at up to 12 Mb/s and can achieve GPIB transfer rates of up to 935 KB/s using three-wire or HS488 protocols. Standard IEEE 488 handshaking supports transfer rates of up to 880 KB/s. The controller draws power directly from the USB port, with a maximum consumption of 500 mA.
Installation is simplified through plug-and-play operation, allowing the host computer to detect and configure the controller without manual jumper settings or system resets. The 779354-01 is compatible with NI-488.2 driver versions 2.0 through 17.6 and supports Linux systems. Existing software written for compatible National Instruments GPIB controllers can also be used with the 779354-01, helping simplify the transition from older GPIB controller hardware.
The compact design makes the 779354-01 suitable for automated test systems, calibration equipment, laboratory instrument networks, mobile test setups, and benchtop measurement applications. Its USB interface provides a practical way to connect modern computers to existing GPIB instrumentation without requiring a dedicated internal interface card.
