The 185196-01 is a 1-meter, Serial Cable from NI. This cable supports the RS232 serial protocol and can be considered to achieve connectivity between RS232 serial devices. The National Instruments 185196-01 Serial Cable should be selected over non-shielded serial cables to achieve better EMC performance, since the cable has high-quality shielding. Shielded serial cables are always preferred over non-shielded cables because these cables ensure accurate transmission between two or more serial interfaces if they are set to communicate via the same protocol.
The 185196-01 Serial Cable has a unique construction because it is equipped with a 68-pin connector on one end and eight, 9-pin connectors on the other end. The 68-pin connector used in the 185196-01 is a male SCSI connector, whereas the 9-pin connectors are all male DB-9 connectors. With this Serial Cable, you can construct a system containing several serial devices. For topologies, 9-pin and 68-pin connectors can also be used with the 185196-01 cable.
