Tektronix P6015A High-Voltage Probe
Tektronix’s P6015A is an extremely accurate and high voltage measurement probe that can be used to capture voltage signals from high-potential circuits in many types of electrical environments. With the addition of the P6015A to your oscilloscope or other test equipment you will now have the ability to analyze high-potential circuits safely and accurately. The High-Voltage Probe is comprised of a hand-held probe assembly and a separate compensation box. The probe has several important accessories including; a ground lead with clip, interchangeable probe tip (banana plug or hook), and a carry case.
The P6015A was specifically designed for use in ground referenced systems. The probe has a 1000:1 attenuation ratio, which makes it ideal for measuring voltages much greater than the typical oscilloscope input range. It also has a very high input impedance of 100 MΩ and an extremely low input capacitance of approximately 3 pF. These characteristics minimize the impact the probe has on the circuit being measured, thus allowing for a faithful representation of the original waveform. The compensation box is an integral part of the P6015A's design and is responsible for maximizing the probes frequency response, resulting in reliable measurements at frequencies up to 75 MHz. The guard ring located on the probe provides additional protection for the user while the probe is being used as a handheld device.
The high-voltage probe is primarily intended for use in applications where there is a need to analyze the waveform of high voltage circuits. Examples of these applications include; Industrial Power Electronics Development, Motor Drive Development, Designing High Voltage Power Supplies, and Research Laboratories. The P6015A is designed to be used by trained personnel to measure DC voltages, AC amplitudes, and transient pulses under specific operating conditions. The probe may be used in conjunction with a variety of testing methods, including direct handheld probing, and using a semi-permanent fixture for repeated testing. In order to maintain accurate measurement results, proper calibration and regular compensation of the probe will be necessary over a wide variety of oscilloscope channels and environmental conditions. The rugged design of the P6015A and safety features make it an essential tool for diagnosis of high voltage related problems in development and troubleshooting applications.
