The PCMCIA-4050 is a Portable 5.5 Digit Digital Multimeter. The NI PCMCIA-4050 is developed by National Instruments. This Multimeter can also be identified by part number 777186-01. The PCMCIA-4050 can measure DC and AC current, voltage, and resistance. The NI PCMCIA-4050 is designed with minimal power consumption. The PCMCIA-4050 is suitable for several applications due to its portability, light weight, and low power consumption. This Digital Multimeter is perfect for portable measurements and data logging with notebook and handheld computers. A special feature of the PCMCIA-4050 DMM is the numerous reading rates. The reading rate depends on the range selections, powerline rejection, function, and resolution. However, the maximum reading rate is 60 readings/s.

This Portable Digital Multimeter features five input ranges for DC voltage signals and five input ranges for AC voltage signals. For AC signals, the PCMCIA-4050 can measure the True-rms AC voltage and current. The National Instruments PCMCIA-4050 DMM can measure 2-wire resistance. The basic range for resistance measurements are 200 Ω, 2 kΩ, 20 kΩ, 200 kΩ, and 2 MΩ. However, the range of the PCMCIA-4050 can be extended up to 200 MΩ. For measuring the resistance with extended range, a 1 MΩ resistor can be added in parallel with the test resistor.  

The PCMCIA-4050 Portable Digital Multimeter supports Windows XP/Me/NT/9x/2000 operating systems. The NI PCMCIA-4050 is compatible with application software like Measurement Studio for Visual C++, LabVIEW, Visual Basic, C/C++, and LabWindows/CVI. This Multimeter can be configured with NI-DMM driver software.
