National Instruments 723078-01 PXI Power Shuttle
The National Instruments 723078-01 PXI Power Shuttle is an engineering-designed, drop-in replaceable, modular power subassembly as well as an upgradable option for several NI PXI and PXI Express chassis assemblies. It has been designed with one self-contained module that includes the chassis power supply, the cooling fans, and the fan control circuitry. In addition to providing a more compact footprint, it will provide a complete solution to the restoration of a chassis to full operational status by addressing all of the power requirements and also the thermal management and airflow needs at once.
The PXI Power Shuttle is intended for use in the NI PXI and PXI Express chassis platform architecture, which has widespread usage in automated test and measurement, data acquisition, semiconductor testing, aerospace & defense, and industrial control. It maintains the standard PXI voltage rail levels continuously throughout normal chassis operation (-12V, 5V, 3.3V, and +12V). The integrated fan control circuitry monitors temperature loads and dynamically adjusts air flow to maintain required cooling capacity per chassis slot and prevent thermal damage to installed PXI instrument modules from excessive heat buildup during extended periods of operation. Additionally, overvoltage protection on both the 3.3 V and 5 V rail levels protects sensitive measurement equipment from power spikes that could potentially cause damage.
One of the most significant benefits of the 723078-01 is its easy-to-use, tool-assisted mounting process located at the rear of the chassis, allowing for an average Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) of less than five minutes. As previously stated, this is extremely important to high-volume test operations in which the downtime of a test station results in loss of productivity. The 723078-01 attaches using captive screws attached to the rear of the chassis and uses a single back-plane connector connection point. No additional configuration of the software is needed subsequent to installing the shuttle. For users of NI PXI-based test stations utilizing them in either production or laboratory environments, the 723078-01 offers a simple method to restore or extend the life cycle of their existing chassis without having to replace the entire enclosure.
