National Instruments 786457-01 Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Device.

The National Instruments 786457-01 is a multifunction reconfigurable I/O device that features a Kintex-7 325T FPGA. It is also known as the PCIe-7858 module. This device offers a maximum sample rate of 1 MS/s which is suitable for applications that require precise timing and control. 

The analog input section of this 786457-01 module includes 8 channels with DIFF, NRSE, and RSE software-selectable modes. It employs a successive approximation register (SAR) ADC with a 16-bit resolution and a conversion time of 1 µs. The input impedance of this model is 1.25 GΩ when powered on and 4 kΩ minimum when powered off. The input signal range is software-selectable at ±1 V, ±2 V, ±5 V, and ±10 V. The input bias and offset currents are ±5 nA, with DC coupling. The 786457-01 device offers 8 single-ended voltage output channels. The output range is ±10 V, with a 0.5 Ω output impedance and a current drive of ±2.5 mA. The output section also offers short circuit and overvoltage protection.

The digital I/O section includes two connectors that offer 16 channels at 10 MHz on “Connector 0” and 32 channels at 80 MHz on “Connector 1”. The digital I/O is compatible with LVTTL and LVCMOS logic families and has a software-selectable logic level of 3.3 V by default. An external clock can be used for synchronization that supports a maximum input frequency of 80 MHz with a 50 Ω characteristic impedance. The 786457-01 module comes with a reconfigurable Kintex-7 325T FPGA. It features 407,600 flip-flops, 203,800 LUTs, 16,020 kbits of embedded Block RAM, and 840 DSP48 slices. The device supports multiple timebases that include 40 MHz, 80 MHz, 120 MHz, 160 MHz, and 200 MHz. The timebase is set to 40 MHz by default with ±100 ppm accuracy.

The onboard DRAM of NI 786457-01 module consists of 512 MB in one bank that offers a maximum theoretical data rate of 800 MB/s for high-speed data streaming. Synchronization resources include RTSI<0..7> for precise timing and control. The bus interface is compliant with x4 PCI Express and also supports x4, x8, and x16 PCI Express slots. In this 786457-01 module the data transfers can be managed through DMA, interrupts, or programmed I/O along with 16 DMA channels. This multifunction RIO module weighs only 165.1 g and its dimensions are 16.8 cm x 11.1 cm. The device is designed to operate within a temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C and can be stored between -20 °C to 70 °C. It complies with safety standards such as IEC 61010-1, UL 61010-1, and electromagnetic compatibility standards that include EN 61326-1 and FCC Part 15B.
