National Instruments PXI-7841R PXI Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module

The PXI-7841R (Part Numbers: 780337-01, 198219D-04L) Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module is a member of the R Series by National Instruments. This module has the following specifications: a maximum sample rate of 200 kS/s, eight analog input channels, eight analog output channels, 96 bidirectional digital channels, an analog input voltage range from -10 V to 10 V, 3.3V, 5V digital I/O logic levels, a Virtex-5 LX30 FPGA, and a maximum clock rate of 40 MHz.

The greatest feature of the PXI-7841R Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module is its versatility to meet separate application requirements. As an example, this module can be arranged in one application for three 32-bit quadrature encoders, then the user can arrange it for eight 16-bit event counters in the next application.

A Field-Programmable Gate Array, or FPGA, can be re-arranged by the user. The FPGA controls the analog I/O lines and permits the user to designate the functionality and timing of the module. By utilizing LabVIEW on a LabVIEW FPGA Module, the user can modify the functionality of the FPGA on the PXI-7841R or any other RIO module in the R Series. The user can additionally construct and download a unique virtual instrument (VI) to the FPGA. Other functions, such as floating-point processing, real-time, or datalogging can be accomplished while completing I/O and logic on the National Instruments PXI-7841R module. The Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module has Flash memory for saving an initial VI for automatic loading of the FPGA when the module is turned on.

PXI-7841R Mature Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
