National Instruments IVN-8563 Media Converter

The National Instruments IVN-8563 (part number: 789841-01) is a single-channel media converter. This efficient device offers low latency for converting data between two Ethernet types: 10/100BASE-TX and 10BASE-T1S Automotive. This media converter is an especially useful tool for automotive electronic unit (ECU) testing and validation applications that require Ethernet connectivity. This device is intended for usage in systems that might need drivers, software, and hardware in order to be optimized for a specific use case.

There are two ports for communication on the IVN-8563- the first port is a 2-position automotive ethernet terminal block, while the second port is an RJ-45 Ethernet port. The maximum voltage rating for Port 1 is 30 VDC, while the maximum current rating for Port 2 is 92 mA. In addition, the media converter features one USB type-C connector to deliver power, and one miniUSB port to facilitate configuration data / device setup.

Built with four holes on the bottom, the IVN-8563 is able to be mounted in a variety of positions. It can be mounted on a typical 35 mm DIN rail with only one clip, offering versatility for a wide range of testing setups. The front panel of the NI IVN-8563 is equipped with LEDs to indicate the status of different hardware features at a glance. The “LINK” LED displays green or red, indicating the status of the firmware or link. The “STAT” LED also displays green or red to indicate the PLCA or boot status. The “10” LED displays speed status, while the “LINK/ACT” LED shows link status or activity.

The physical dimensions of the IVN-8563 measure 5.6 in. × 3.7 in.× 1.5 in., and it weighs an easily manageable 15.04 oz. Designed to meet the specifications for the IEC 60068-2-1, IEC 60068-2-2, and IEC 60068-2-78 environmental standards, the device has an operating temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C with a noncondensing relative humidity range of 10% to 90%. When not being used, the converter has a storage temperature range of -40 °C to 71 °C with a noncondensing relative humidity range of 5% to 95%.
