The National Instruments PXI-6651 (Part Numbers: 778725-01, 188268D-03) is a Slave Synchronization Module designed for a PXI Chassis. This model offers full PXI start trigger bus control and is a low-cost option available for synchronizing multiple PXI chassis. The PXI-6651 comes equipped with a 10 MHz reference clock input into the chassis and two SMB connections as well for trigger line sharing. It has a CLKIN frequency range of 1 MHz to 105 MHz, SMB male front panel connectors with a nominal input impedance of 50 ohms, and requires one 3U CompactPXI slot for operation.
This module operates in slave configuration primarily and can route externally generated signals only. The front panel of the PXI-6651 has PFI <0..1> (programmable function interface) Connectors, one CLKIN Connector, one Access LED, and one Active LED. This Timing and Control Module enables the user to send and receive PXI based timing signals between two or even more PXI chassis. It can also generate and route clock signals across devices connected in multiple chassis, providing the user with an easier way for the synchronization of redundant devices in a PXI system.
To program the NI PXI-6651, the user can utilize National Instruments app development environment (ADE) programs, such as LabWindows/CVI, LabVIEW, and other third-party ADEs like Visual C/C++. The LabVIEW offers a state-of-the-art interface, interactive graphics, and a robust graphics language. This Timing and Control Module features injector/ejector handles, which allow a smooth and seamless installation of the module. The user can have the NI PXI-6651 installed in any available slot of a PXI chassis. Please note that this module is usually installed in slot 2. This module is entirely software configurable and the system allocates all of its resources automatically.
It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C, a storage temperature range of -20 to 70 °C, and an operating and non-operating random vibration of 0.3 grms and 2.4 grms respectively – all at a frequency range of 5 to 500 Hz.
PXI-6651 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
