National Instruments 787936-01 USB-6210 USB Multifunction I/O Device
The National Instruments 787936-01 (USB-6210) is a bus-powered M Series USB multifunction data acquisition device designed for portable, high-accuracy measurement, automated test, and laboratory data logging applications. Featuring 16 single-ended (or 8 differential) analog input channels with 16-bit ADC resolution, the device delivers aggregate sampling speeds up to 250 kS/s across all channels. Input ranges are software-selectable across four DC-coupled spans (±0.2 V, ±1 V, ±5 V, and ±10 V), backed by a 4,095-sample FIFO buffer and scan list memory to guarantee smooth, continuous data streaming. Onboard timing circuitry operates with a 50 ns timing resolution and 50 ppm sample rate accuracy, while maintaining an absolute accuracy rating of 2,960 µV on the ±10 V range. The analog front-end features high channel isolation, delivering -75 dB adjacent-channel crosstalk (-90 dB non-adjacent) at 100 kHz with a -3 dB small-signal bandwidth of 450 kHz. Integrated overvoltage protection guards input channels up to ±30 V when powered (±20 V unpowered) while limiting fault currents to ±20 mA per pin.
In addition to analog inputs, the USB-6210 provides 4 digital input and 4 digital output channels referenced to digital ground (D GND) with internal 47 kΩ ±1% pull-down resistors and input voltage protection up to ±20 V across all 8 digital lines. For precise event tracking, pulse generation, and frequency measurements, the unit incorporates two 32-bit general-purpose counter/timers driven by onboard base clocks operating at 80 MHz, 20 MHz, and 100 kHz. These counters support edge counting, pulse-width, period, semi-period, and two-edge separation measurements, as well as position decoding for X1, X2, and X4 quadrature encoders with Channel Z reloading.
Powered entirely via USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (or Full-Speed) bus power (accepting 4.75 V to 5.35 V at up to 350 mA), the 787936-01 eliminates the need for an external AC power supply. The device utilizes four dedicated USB Signal Streams to manage concurrent high-speed data transfers across the analog input channels and dual counter/timers. An onboard +5 V terminal provides up to 50 mA of auxiliary power output (shared with the digital lines) to drive external sensors or low-power circuitry, making the USB-6210 an ideal, highly mobile I/O solution for field diagnostics, academic instruction, and automated OEM benchtop measurement systems.
