Pickering 10-785B-522 GPIB Microwave Multiplexer Module

Pickering’s 10-785B-522 is a complex dual six-channel microwave multiplexer that is used in complex Automated Test Equipment (ATE). In order to programmatically switch the connections between several signal sources and devices being tested (DUT), this module provides an interface to the System 10 via GPIB. As such, the 10-785B-522 eliminates the need for users to manually re-cable their setup for each new test configuration. To support both R&D and production testing in environments with high demands on frequency response, the multiplexer module has been designed to operate at frequencies up to 26.5 GHz.

With two completely independent 6-channel banks, the 10-785B-522 provides 12 separate RF paths, with each bank having a single port that can be switched to any one of its six channels. Utilizing high-quality SMA connectors and featuring an impedance of 50 ohms to minimize signal reflections and ensure signal integrity. The multiplexer’s electrical specification includes low insertion loss at less than 0.7 dB and high channel-to-channel isolation of over 50 dB throughout its operating frequency range. Both of these electrical characteristics are necessary for maintaining signal fidelity and minimizing crosstalk in sensitive measurement applications. Withstanding millions of switch cycles, the 10-785B-522 is built to provide many years of operation in high-throughput industrial automation and test systems.

Common applications for this type of module would be found in the aerospace, defense and telecommunications industry as they typically require high precision microwave signal switching. The 10-785B-522 is often used to build larger and more complex switching matrices using multiple modules. For example, an engineer could use one or more of these modules to connect multiple instruments such as a vector network analyzer, a spectrum analyzer and/or a signal generator to different DUTS (Devices Under Test). The ability of the modules to handle high power signals and their ability to switch quickly will help to increase efficiency and reliability of test executions while improving the workflow in both production automation and laboratory environments.
