Pickering 40-140-121 High Density Reed Relay Module
Pickering’s 40-140-121 is a high-density PXI reed relay module that has been designed to be used as a highly reliable and ruggedly constructed switching device for use within automated testing systems. With a total of seventy-five (75) SPST ruthenium reed relays contained within the module, this provides a compact method of routing low-level signals throughout your test and measurement environment. By maximizing the number of channels per module, in one three-unit (3U) PXI module, it allows for increased utilization of available slots within your PXI test system when space is limited. The integrated reeds have a long life and low contact resistance over the many million switching cycles that you will perform. These characteristics are necessary to maintain signal quality over time.
For ease of integration into existing testing systems, the module contains a front panel 200-pin female connector, which provides connectivity to a variety of devices and/or fixtures. Additionally, the module uses a single +5V DC power supply and complies with both PXI and Compact PCI specifications, providing compatibility with a variety of chassis from different vendors. Each ruthenium reed relay has a typical switching time of 250 microseconds and can switch signals between 0 and 150 VDC or 0 and 100 VAC while handling a maximum of 1 ampere of switching current. As a result of its switching speed, voltage, and current ratings, the module is applicable to a wide range of general-purpose switching applications.
Typical applications of the 40-140-121 include building small switching networks, performing I/O port switching, controlling larger relays, and/or operating external devices such as lights and/or solenoids. In particular, it is well-suited for those applications requiring constant low-level signal quality and/or high reliability. The module also includes a full suite of software drivers for Windows and/or other operating systems, which allow easy programming within a variety of development environments. Additionally, the module is compatible with Pickering’s eBIRST test tools, which allow for quick identification of failed relays, thus reducing downtime and simplifying troubleshooting.
