Pickering 40-670-022-198/1 Very High Density PXI Multiplexer
The Pickering 40-670-022-198/1 is a modular, very high-density PXI multiplexer, configured for 198-channel switching only and single-pole switching. Like all Pickering Electronics relays, this product is constructed using very reliable ruthenium electroplated reed relays, and it has proven long life and stable contact resistance. The Pickering 40-670-022-198/1 can be treated only as a conventional multiplexer with break-before-make switching mode when selecting a channel, therefore channels can't be selected together in this configuration. Automatic Isolation Switching, which is featured in other pole modes to minimize capacitive loading in larger systems, does not take place in this 198-channel 1-pole configuration. This bandwidth for this module is greater than 20 MHz with less than -80 dBm noise.
The Pickering 40-670-022-198/1 is primarily designed for signal routing in Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and data acquisition systems. It can switch up to 100 volts, 1.2 amps (carry current), and up to 20 watts maximum power. The path resistance is typically less than 300 mohm, and greater than 10^9 ohm path resistance when open. The Pickering 40-670-022-198/1 has a differential thermal offset voltage of less than 5 microvolts. Capacitance for the open channel is less than 6 picofarads, and under-channels to channel (open) is less than 15 picofarads. For a 50-ohm system, the channel-to-channel crosstalk measures 90 dB at 10 kHz, ensuring that the signal integrity is maintained.
The relay actuation times of the 40-670-022-198/1 are incredibly fast, measuring less than 0.5 ms. The module occupies a single 3U PXI/CompactPCI slot and draws power exclusively from the backplane (5V, typical 1.4W, maximum 6.7W). The signal connections utilize a front panel 200-pin connector. Drivers are available for legacy Windows Operating Systems (95/98/2000/NT) to operate individual relays, provide full status reporting, and card identification. In many cases, several cards can be combined in a larger multiplexer system simply by daisychaining the commons to a larger common. Spare relays are included on the board to assist with future maintenance. This design meets the PXI Specification 2.0 with local bus, interrupts, and trigger features not included.
