Pickering 40-710-734 RF Relay Module
The Pickering 40-710-734 PXI RF switching card offers four independent SPDT changeover switches in a single 3U PXI module, which is fully bi-directional. The inherent 75 Ω characteristic impedance provides a maximum signal handling of 1 GHz and is an excellent solution for a wide range of video and telecommunications applications where good fidelity and low distortion of the signal are vital.
In terms of operation, each switch path offers a typical insertion loss of less than 3 dB across the 0 to 1 GHz band and isolation of greater than 30 dB to minimize the amount of inherent channel-to-channel leakage. In terms of isolation, crosstalk between adjacent channels is specified at better than –40 dB, with the module offering a maximum voltage standing wave ratio of less than 2.4:1 across the operating bandwidth, providing matching and low reflection in all switch states.
From a construction perspective, the Pickering 40-710-734 module is designed for accuracy and long life, with an initial resistance on path of less than 200 mΩ, with off-path resistance greater than 1 x 10^8 Ω, providing clean signal paths when closed and really good isolation when open. Relay switching time is 10 ms and relay rise time is less than 0.3 ns, which allows for fast signal routing, while having negligible transient distortion. Each relay is rated for up to 10 W switching power, maximum 30 V DC voltage and 0.5 A current, which allows for good verification and assurance of operation to a high degree across a multitude of RF test applications.
The card is powered directly from the PXI backplane and consumes 320 mA at +5V, with no consumption of +3.3 V, +12V, or –12V, simplifying incorporation into PXI or LXI chassis. A front-panel set of SMB coax connectors allows direct access to all twelve RF ports. The 40-710-734 is compliant with PXI Specification 2.2, thus all PXI systems will work together and seamlessly in conjunction with each other.
Typical applications include aerial switching, fully automated signal routing of high-frequency video or telecommunications signals into oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers, and tree network architectures in modular testing systems integrated together.
