Pickering 40-745-701 RF Multiplexer
The Pickering 40-745-701 is a single 4-to-1 RF multiplexer module used in automated test systems to route high-frequency signal paths. The 40-745-701 RF multiplexer model has a characteristic impedance of 75 Ω and front panel BNC coaxial connectors. The operational bandwidth is up to 1000 MHz, as determined by the connector type. The electrical specifications of the 40-745-701 include an insertion loss of less than 3 dB and isolation between channels of greater than 20 dB over the full 0 to 2000 MHz range.
The RF relays used by the 40-745-701 are highly reliable, with a long mechanical life (greater than 1 million operations) and electrical life (greater than 300 thousand operations) at maximum power. With a switching time of 5 milliseconds, these relays are incredibly fast. In terms of power, the RF Multiplexer requires only a +5 VDC supply (typically < 240 mA, 320 mA at maximum).
The module is a bi-directional switch that routes signals between a single common port and one of four selectable input/output ports. Unlike some other models in the series, the 40-745-701 does not provide automatic termination of non-selected channels.
The multiplexer is contained in a single slot 3U PXI form factor, and is used in PXI or Compact PCI chassis that meet specification 2.2, or in hybrid slots in PXI Express systems. The device can also be used in Pickering Interfaces' LXI or LXI/USB modular chassis that support control via Ethernet or USB. Supported drivers include VISA (NI and Keysight implementations), IVI and kernel drivers for Windows, which allows control via programming in a number of environments, such as LabVIEW, TestStand, MATLAB and Visual Studio.
Typical applications of the Pickering 40-745-701 RF multiplexer will be routing 75 Ω high-frequency signals objectives, such as in telecom tributary switching (2 MBit/s to 155 MBit/s), video/audio distribution signal routing, or connecting oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators and using it in switching high-frequency logic signals. The module will work reliably in an ambient temperature ranging from 0 °C to +55 °C and up to 90% non-condensing humidity.
