Pickering 40-792-701 Tributary Daisy Chain Switch Module
The Pickering 40-792-701 Tributary Daisy Chain Switch Module is a single-slot PXI card designed for telecom test systems that need to route sequentially 2 Mbit/s or 1.5 Mbit/s SONET/SDH tributaries through eight channels at the characteristic 75 Ω impedance. It enables production and verification testing of transmission multiplexers by connecting all or multiple tributaries in a daisy-chain configuration. Multiple modules can be cascaded to create systems with hundreds of channels. Two multiplexers are included on board, providing direct transmit or receive paths to a single tributary to allow for detailed measurement, such as pulse shape distortion or return loss with sub-nanosecond rise times and less than 0.3 dB insertion loss at frequencies up to 10 MHz.
Built for durability, the 40-792-701 module can switch and apply up to 100 VDC/AC, 30 W of power, and 1 A of switching current, with an expected life of more than 10⸠operations in low-power mode and 2 × 10âµ operations in full-power mode. Switching takes place in less than 10 ms, with relay centre settling in less than 3 ms, providing quick reconfiguration times. RF performance is better than 21 dB return loss, and more than 50 dB isolation below 10 MHz. Crosstalk performance across switched paths is less than -50 dB, preserving signal integrity for complex test sequences.
Designed to comply with the PXI Specification 2.2, the 40-792-701 module utilizes a 32-bit backplane interface. It meets CE compliance for both low-voltage safety (EN 61010-1) and EMC (EN 61326-1, EN 55011). The operating environment is between 0 °C and 55 °C at 90% non-condensing humidity, and the rear panel has a 96-way micro-D connector. Comprehensive Windows-compatible VISA, IVI, and kernel drivers turn the Pickering 40-792-701 module into a high-level component for integration with NI LabVIEW, TestStand, MATLAB and other environments. This module provides a basis for scalable telecom validation architectures with high fidelity.
