Pickering 40-796-922 Daisy Chain Switch Module
The Pickering 40-796-922 is an 8/16 Tributary Daisy Chain Switch Module, designed for specialized telecom test applications. Being a balanced-line switching module, it supports the production and verification tests of SONET/SDH transmission multiplexers using 2 Mbit/s (E1) or 1.5 Mbit/s (T1) signals on 100Ω or 120Ω balanced lines, with the 40-796-922 supporting 16 tributaries per single-slot PXI module.
The 40-796-922 module can sequentially daisy-chain signals across all 16 tributaries or any user-defined set of tributaries (for example, all even channel numbers, or all odd channel numbers). The 40-796-922 also contains a breakout multiplexer to connect a particular tributary for testing a certain condition, such as return loss testing, or pulse shape distortion testing. Conceptually, the 40-796-922 operates as a 4x16 Matrix, the first row carries the daisy-chain paths, the second row inverts the polarity, and the third and fourth rows connect the transmit and receive multiplexers to each tributary.
Electrically, the 40-796-922 supports a maximum of 100 VDC / 100 VAC and 1A of current per channel. The on-path resistance is less than 1.5Ω for standard connections (less than 5Ω for daisy-chain throughput). RF characteristics specify that the insertion loss is less than ≤1dB and the amount of reflection S11 (VSWR) is less than <1.5 for frequencies between 1Hz and 10MHz. The 40-796-922 operates using +5 V @ 500 mA from the PXI backplane, and will fit in a 3U PXI/LXI chassis. For connections to the test circuits using the front panel, a 96-pin SCSI style micro-D connector is utilized.
The operative 40-796-922 is approved for use in PXI (Specification 2.2) and LXI modular chassis, and includes drivers for the VISA, IVI and Kernel interfaces for next generation operating systems from Microsoft Windows XP through Windows 8 (32/64 bit), Linux and LabVIEW Realtime operating system. The 40-796-922 also supports various levels of diagnostics using Pickering's PI-MXT (adapter number 90-100-229) as relay testing automation tool. The 40-796-922 replaces the relay in the chassis using the easy to service relay kits (91-100-040, 91-100-023). The module operates in temperatures from 0°C to +55°C and conforms to CE requirements for safety (EN61010-1) and EMC (EN61000-6-1, EN55011).
