Pickering 40-297-034 Precision Resistor Module
The Pickering 40-297-034 is a high-density PXI-format resistor module designed for use in highly accurate resistive simulation in Automated Test Systems (ATS). The module contains four independent channels, which may be configured to provide resistances of between 2 ohms and 102 kilohms at a resolution of 2 ohms. The purpose of this module is to mimic resistive sensor devices, such as temperature probe devices and potentiometer devices, used in functional tests on electronic control units, such as engine controllers, so that these components may be thoroughly validated in a functional test environment without the need for the presence of real physical sensors.
One common application area for the 40-297-034 module is for use in hardware-in-the-loop testing applications where the module supplies a stable, programmable resistance load per channel. In addition to its ability to program each channel's resistance value through simple software commands, the module automatically selects the nearest achievable resistance setting, reports the actual selected resistance value, and includes the capability to configure each channel to represent either an open circuit or a short circuit for the purposes of testing diagnostic routines and system response to failures. Additionally, calibration can be performed using a provided cable port and a digital multimeter to measure the resistance of each channel in a 4-wire configuration while the module is operating without the need to disconnect the unit under test.
Integration into a test system software platform is facilitated by the inclusion of both VISA and kernel driver support for the module to be used with Windows-based platforms and other development environments such as National Instruments LabVIEW and MathWorks MATLAB. The 40-297-034 module is designed to operate in a PXI or compatible LXI chassis and derives all required power from the +5V backplane supply. The module has been designed as a single-slot, 3U PXI card and provides access to all resistor channel signals on the front panel via a 37-pin D-type connector. The combination of programmability, fault simulation capabilities and verification functions available in the 40-297-034 module make it a very flexible and useful component in the development and deployment of functional test systems that require accurate and reliable resistance simulation.
