Keysight/Agilent N1090A Digital Communication Analyzer
The N1090A Digital Communication Analyzer (DCA) from Keysight/Agilent is a new generation of compact instruments developed to analyze optical waveforms, validate optical transmitters, and provide high-accuracy signal characterization. The N1090A uses the same level of measurement depth as its predecessor, the 86100 family, but is offered in an ultra-small form factor. Engineers will find this instrument to be extremely convenient for testing both optical and electrical signals with one instrument. It supports applications at speeds from 1 to 10 Gb/s and provides a means to measure critical parameters such as eye diagrams, jitter, and waveform characteristics with high precision.
This DCA-M version of the instrument has two calibrated optical reference receivers available. They can be configured for multimode or single-mode optical measurements over a wavelength range of 750 to 1650 nm. In addition, the N1090A also provides various electrical channel configurations to enable users to characterize faster speed signals. This instrument was designed specifically for use in laboratory settings, production test environments, and for compliance testing that requires reliable optical receiver testing, modulation analysis, and signal integrity checks. The user interface for controlling the N1090A is provided via the Keysight FlexDCA software running on a user-supplied PC, connected to the N1090A via USB. This allows users who have previously worked with Keysight test systems to operate the N1090A in a very familiar manner.
Users of the Keysight/Agilent N1090A include fiber optic communications professionals, those involved in data center component testing, telecommunication equipment manufacturers, and producers of transceivers and transmitters. Users employ this instrument to perform performance evaluations against established communications industry standards. These standards include Ethernet, CPRI, Fibre Channel, GPON, etc., and allow users to develop confidence in their designs.
The N1090A's low noise floor and high sensitivity also improve its ability to clearly display waveforms, increase the dynamic range, and enhance the reliability of measurements on weaker optical signals.
Automation, validation, and research & development groups utilize the Keysight N1090A as a compact optical test instrument that simplifies the process of characterizing transmitters, verifying compliance, and troubleshooting waveforms without the added complexity of setting up a modular mainframe configuration.
