Tektronix 442 Oscilloscope
The Tektronix 442 Oscilloscope has been developed for high-reliability analysis of high-frequency signals in industrial and electronic applications. It uses a maximum bandwidth of 35 MHz and can be used in high-performance situations for testing and R&D work, as well as fault diagnosis in production lines. The oscilloscope's many operational modes make it very useful for engineers and technicians who need to accurately measure the voltage and timing characteristics of the signals on which they are working (power electronics, digital control systems, etc.).
The Tektronix 442 has a vertical deflection system that can provide calibration factors from 2 MV/div through 10 V/div; this capability will allow a large variety of signal amplitudes to be measured. The horizontal deflection system of the 442 provides a range of sweep rates (from .5 second/division to .001 microsecond/division); however, using the built-in magnifier, the user can expand this to .01 microsecond/division (or 10 nanoseconds/division). This flexibility of the 442 is essential when examining both slowly changing processes and high-speed transient phenomena. The triggering system on the Tektronix 442 provides stability to the display over the entire bandwidth, with multiple sources available to select (internal channel, line voltage, external trigger input). In addition to the standard time-base display mode, the Tektronix 442 also has a dedicated X-Y operating mode, which allows for the measurement of the phase difference of two signals, as well as for observing Lissajous patterns.
For user-friendly operation, the Tektronix 442 has two vertical input channels, each of which may be selected for AC, DC, and/or GND coupling. Controls located on the front panel permit the operator to perform peak-to-peak and instantaneous DC voltage measurements, time-duration and rise-time analysis, and time-difference comparisons of the two signals being measured. An adjustable probe calibration connector is provided on the front panel to permit the calibration of probes and the verification of the vertical gain of the scope. For safety and universal application, the Tektronix 442 is designed to operate on either 120V or 240V AC power supplies with a selectable regulation range and proper fusing.
