Tektronix TDS754D Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope
The Tektronix TDS754D is a four-channel digital phosphor oscilloscope used by engineers to perform high-end electronic design and debugging functions. It has a 500 MHz bandwidth and 2 G samples/sec bandwidth on each of its four channels, allowing for the accurate capture of very complex waveforms with high fidelity. The digital phosphor technology inside the unit allows for the simultaneous capture, storage and display of a signal's three characteristics: amplitude, time, and how the amplitude of the signal varies over time. These capabilities allow designers to see the dynamic nature of signals (i.e., the rapid changes that occur in a signal as well as the frequency of rare events) and quantify these changes through the use of an intensity-graded color display. As such, this can enable designers to identify subtle anomalies and transients that would be difficult or impossible to detect using traditional oscilloscopes.
The TDS754D was built to perform well and provide accurate measurements by utilizing a 1% vertical accuracy and an 8-bit vertical resolution, and it can also increase its vertical resolution to greater than 13 bits by using its Hi-res option. The TDS754D has several features that allow users to trigger on the most elusive glitch patterns and includes 29 automated measurements to quickly analyze waveforms. The scope will store waveforms for a maximum length of 8 million points, allowing users to measure longer duration signals and provides a floppy disk drive and GPIB programmable interface for storing waveform data and remotely controlling the scope. This oscilloscope's integrated analysis tools, such as Fast Fourier Transforms (FFTs), Waveform Histograms and Limit Testing, will help speed up debugging and validate processes.
The TDS754D oscilloscope has a large variety of uses in both industrial automation and electronics development. Some common uses of this oscilloscope are debugging digital designs, jitter and timing analysis, fast edge characterization and communication compliance testing, i.e., mask testing for SONET/SDH and fiber channel standards. Other examples of the many uses of the TDS754D are making power measurements, measuring disk drives, designing video systems, and developing complex systems (all of which make it a very valuable tool to use when engineers need to quickly diagnose and solve problems).
