Tektronix 80C07B Optical Sampling Module
The Tektronix 80C07B is a multi-rate optical sampling module developed for full-spectrum testing of Datacom and Telecom signal types. The Tektronix 80C07B has been designed for use with DSA8300 Series Sampling Oscilloscope platforms (and others) and offers a total optical test solution for a wide variety of applications. The module supports a broad wavelength band (700 to 1650 nm), allowing evaluation of both shorter wavelength and longer wavelength optical signals at data rates ranging from 125 Mb/s to 2500 Mb/s. Therefore, this module represents a very important tool for developers and validation engineers involved in the development of optical interfaces using legacy or intermediate-speed optical interfaces.
At the heart of the Tektronix 80C07B’s capabilities is an amplified optical-to-electrical converter providing a superior signal-to-noise ratio and high optical sensitivity. With the ability to accurately evaluate low-power optical signals, the module will allow developers and validation engineers to measure and validate the transmitter and evaluate the link budget required for a specific application. Clock recovery may also be provided with the 80C07B as an option to support many standardized rates, such as 155 Mb/s, 622 Mb/s, 1.063 Gb/s, 1.25 Gb/s, 2.125 Gb/s, 2.488 Gb/s, 2.5 Gb/s, and 2.666 Gb/s. Providing the ability to precisely synchronize the timing of the clock recovered with that of the sampling oscilloscope, developers and validation engineers will have the capability to perform jitter and eye diagram analysis on the output signal based upon many different protocols.
The primary uses of the sampling module are to provide conformance testing for many of the industry standards that are currently being utilized by many organizations, such as Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, and InfiniBand, as well as telecom standards such as OC-3/STM-1 through OC-48/STM-16. Many organizations utilize the 80C07B for critical optical signal analysis, including extinction ratio & Q-factor measurements, eye-pattern and pulse shape analysis, and relaxation oscillation testing. The sensitivity of the mask tests that can be performed with the module(typical -22 dBm) enables the developers and validation engineers to perform the necessary testing to ensure that all components and systems comply with the industry specifications. The 80C07B is a powerful tool for research and development and manufacturing environments where the integrity and performance of optical communication systems must be ensured.
