California Instruments 5001iX AC/DC Power Source and Analyzer
The California Instruments 5001iX is an AC/DC power source and analyzer in a 4U chassis, which is rackmountable. This part may also be found associated with the manufacturer AMETEK, which acquired California Instruments in 2007.
The 5001iX allows users to simulate complicated grid conditions, calculate detailed harmonic measurements, and, with Windows software, create custom waveforms to simulate specific AC anomalies or actual power conditions and transient sequences. Users can download real waveforms, which are captured on an oscilloscope. The configurable output feature allows users to simulate impedances, such as those outlined in IEC 725, for regulatory compliance.
Multi-box configurations are made easier by the 5001iX module. 10 to 15 kVA of single-phase or three-phase power can be produced by combining up to three 5001iX chassis. It can drive nonlinear loads with a recurring peak current of 110 amps and a crest factor of up to 5:1. Included are remote control interfaces (standard IEEE-488 GPIB and RS232C) that are programmed using the Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI) protocol.
The module’s AC output power is 5000 VA (5 kVA), and its DC output power is 3500 W. Its AC voltage range is 0–150 V (low range) and 0–300 V (high range). Its steady-state AC current is 37.0 A on the 150 V range and 18.5 A on the 300 V range. Its maximum DC current is 26 A on the 200 Vdc range, and 13 A on the 400 Vdc range. The frequency of the 5001iX ranges from 16.00 to 1000 Hz, and its frequency accuracy is ± 0.01% of the programmed value. The dimensions of this module are 70 inches (178 mm) high x 19 inches (483 mm) wide x 24 inches (610 mm) deep. This power source weighs 61 lbs (28 kg) net per chassis.
