California Instruments 5001i/X AC/DC Power Source and Analyzer
The California Instruments 5001i/X is a flexible AC and DC power source with a high-performance power analyzer in a rackmountable 4U chassis. The integrated design reduces cable clutter and eliminates the need for external instruments, such as digital multimeters, power harmonics analyzers, and current shunts.
This module allows users to simulate complex grid conditions and perform detailed harmonic measurements. With Windows software, users can create custom waveforms to simulate specific AC anomalies or real-world power conditions and transient sequences. Users can download real-world waveforms captured on a digital oscilloscope directly into the unit’s waveform memory. The programmable output impedance feature allows the module to simulate mandatory reference impedances, such as IEC 725, for regulatory compliance and flicker testing.
The 5001i/X module facilitates multi-box configurations. Two or three 5001i/X chassis can be combined to provide 10 to 15 kVA of single- or three-phase power. It can deliver up to 110 amps of repetitive peak current, offering a crest factor of up to 5:1 to easily drive difficult nonlinear loads like switching power supplies. Remote control interfaces (standard IEEE-488 (GPIB) and RS232C) are included and utilize the SCPI command protocol for programming.
The module’s AC output power is 5000 VA (5 kVA), and its DC output power is 3500 W. Its AC voltage range is 0–150 V (low range) and 0–300 V (high range). Its steady-state AC current is 37.0 A on the 150 V range and 18.5 A on the 300 V range. Its peak repetitive AC current is 110.0 A on the low range and 96.0 A on the high range. Its maximum DC current is 26 A on the 200 Vdc range, and 13 A on the 400 Vdc range. The frequency range of the 5001 i/iX is 16.00 to 1000 Hz, and its frequency accuracy is ±0.01% of the programmed value. The module’s dimensions are 70 inches (178 mm) height x 19 inches (483 mm) width x 24 inches (610 mm) depth. Its weight is 61 lbs (28 kg) net per chassis.
