Elgar CW801P AC Power Supply
For industrial and test applications, Elgar (now a part of Ametek) offers the CW801P AC Power Source, a programmable switch-mode AC power supply that offers precise control and clean single-phase power. It has an output power of 800 VA, maximum current ratings of 6.0 ARMS in the 135 VAC range and 3.0 ARMS in the 270 VAC range, and user-selectable voltage ranges of 0 to 135 VRMS or 0 to 270 VRMS. The frequency range is a standard 45 to 500 Hz with an optional 1000 Hz upgrade (CW-P only). The input is universal 90 to 264 VAC at 47–63 Hz and thus appropriate for worldwide power standards.
Front-panel encoder knobs and a four-digit LED display are utilized to program voltage, current, and frequency on the CW801P. Menu push buttons also provide the setting of system parameters, such as parallel operation, three-phase setups with optional cables, and current limiting modes (foldback or shutdown). The remote operation is facilitated with IEEE-488.2 and RS232 interfaces, while the analog inputs provide amplitude programming in the form of a 0–5V signal. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) provides precise voltage measurement (±0.1% accuracy at less than 100 Hz), current measurement (±0.5% accuracy), frequency measurement (±0.02% accuracy), power factor, power measurement, and crest factor.
The power supply features protections guarding against over voltage/current/temperature conditions. The unit supports parallel operation, while the master unit sums up power and current data from connected systems. Front-panel LEDs provide modes of operation (voltage, current, remote, fault) indication, and a two-speed fan reduces noise at low-power levels. The 2U (3.5" height) space-saving chassis provides benchtop or rackmounting, with rear-panel outputs and approvals of CE, UL, and C-UL.
Applications are avionics test (400 Hz), AC/DC converter test, motor test, and simulation of real power conditions. The programmable menu of the CW801P features self-test, GPIB addressing, relay initialization at power-up, and memory storage of 98 system parameters. Environmental ruggedness features operation at 0–40°C and altitude tolerance to 6,000 feet. Input power factor correction (PFC) provides energy efficiency, and harmonic distortion is less than 0.25% for frequencies to 100 Hz.
