Pickering 41-753-001 Battery Simulator Module
Pickering's 41-753-001 is a high accuracy PXI battery simulator that is used to replicate the electrical characteristics of battery-powered handheld devices (cellular phones) for use in automated test systems. As a programmable DC power source, this unit provides controlled input to the device under test. The 41-753-001 fits into a single 3U PXI slot and receives its required power from the PXI backplane. Therefore, no external power supply is needed. Isolated output of the unit will provide a maximum of 6 Volts with a common-mode voltage range of ±50 Volts which allows for the simulation of a floating battery terminal.
As a battery simulator, the 41-753-001 is capable of both sourcing and sinking current. Therefore, the unit is ideal for simulating the operation of the device being tested as well as the circuitry of chargers. The unit has a programmable current sink of up to 0.5 Amps to simulate a battery that is being charged. The 41-753-001 can source up to 2.8 Amps of current and also contains a programmable output resistor of up to 1.15 Ohms to simulate the actual battery impedance. Remote sense connections are available to allow for accurate voltage regulation directly at the device under test. In addition, the Pickering 41-753-001 has the ability to detect when a load is connected to the unit and can therefore protect the system.
Industrial automation and validation labs have been using the 41-753-001 for simulating loads on batteries and charging devices. It has a fast load transient response of 15 microseconds; therefore, it is able to maintain stability during dynamic conditions. The Battery Simulator has integrated monitor pins that can be used to measure the output voltage and current. A full software package is available to support the simulator including VISA and kernel drivers to allow for seamless integration of the unit into your test environment using LabVIEW, MATLAB, or other common development platforms. Due to its programmability, isolation, and integration capabilities, the 41-753-001 is a key component for reliable power simulation in automated production and R&D test systems.
