TDK Lambda GENH40-19 Programmable DC Power Supply
TDK Lambda's GENH40-19 is a 1U, 0.5-rack-width, compact, programmable DC power supply that provides precise flexibility for applications including industrial automation, test and measurement, and laboratories. With the ability to deliver 760 watts of output power at ranges of 0-40 Vdc and 0-19 Adc, this DC power supply fits into a smaller footprint than many other supplies of its type. A unique feature of the GENH40-19 is its wide-range AC input capability, which can operate from a low of 85 VAC to a high of 265 VAC; also, the unit has active power factor correction capabilities that help maintain the stable operation of the supply regardless of the AC input condition, both locally and where the AC input may vary.
The GENH40-19 was developed for use in system integration and control and includes an RS-232 and RS-485 interface as standard for serial communications between the DC Power Supply and other units. Up to 31 units can be connected using these interfaces. In addition, the device has the capability to support parallel operation; thus, up to four identical units can be operated together to provide a larger current capacity than a single unit. The GENH40-19 provides current sharing between units, allowing the master unit to share the load with one or more slave units.
Optional factory-installed interfaces available on the GENH40-19 include IEEE 488.2 (GPIB) modules, an isolated analog programming board, and an LXI-compliant LAN port. The front panel includes precise rotary encoders for adjusting the voltage and current levels, a digital display, and user-configurable function buttons.
Examples of applications for the power supply include semiconductor device burn-in, component testing, laser diode power supplies, and use as a heater or magnet supply. High precision and stability were considered the most important aspects in designing the GENH40-19. It utilizes 16-bit digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converters for accurate programming and monitoring of the outputs. The mechanical design was done to withstand varied loading conditions and therefore ensure reliability of the operation. Safe-start modes and configuration of protective circuitry are included to protect against damage to the downstream equipment. As a result of its high power density, programmability, and reliability, the GENH40-19 is being used as part of much automated test equipment and integrated industrial systems.
