The Keysight/Agilent 81133A Pulse Pattern Generator is designed for high-precision device characterization and simulation under conditions close to real-world pulses and patterns. The device is a single-channel unit with variable pulse length durations ranging from 15 MHz to 3.35 GHz and fine-tuning over timing parameters in a variety of tests. It is capable of generating pulses, data, and pseudo-random binary sequences in modes such as NRZ, RZ, and R1, and is useful for signal and performance measurement in digital circuits.
For high-precision operation, the generator features a transition time of less than 60 ps, which is critical in high-speed applications. The device features provisions for pulse width setting in absolute value mode and in duty-cycle mode with fixed timing irrespective of frequency and variable period. The device features provisions for delay adjustment with a resolution of 1 ps and an accuracy of ±20 ps and it includes provisions for synchronizing signals and cable compensation. Features for deskew operations and phase adjustment are incorporated into the 81133A to help achieve optimal timing, and the backplane is equipped with an integrated modulating port. If users want to simulate worst-case conditions, they can add a modulating source to simulate signal jitter at up to ±250 ps.
The tool includes a variable crossover with fine signal distortion adjustment, useful for measuring and observing the eye diagram. All the signal outputs and inputs are available on the front panel with provisions made for clock, trigger, start, and delay functions. The instrument is remotely programmable through GPIB, LAN, and USB interfaces and is readily integrated into automated tests. An easy-to-use graphical UI makes setup and parameter adjustment a simple and efficient process.
