Agilent 33120A Function/Arbitrary Waveform Generator
The Agilent 33120A is a function and arbitrary waveform generator used to produce a variety of signal outputs with high accuracy and stability. The generator utilizes direct digital synthesis (DDS) technology to ensure a high level of signal integrity, low distortion, and low added noise, generating clean sine, square, triangle, ramp and noise waveforms over a broad range of frequencies. The generator is capable of producing sine and square waveforms to 15 MHz and triangle and ramp waveforms to 100 kHz, in addition to ultra-low frequency serial waveform generating with resolution to 100 µHz. With up to 12 bits of resolution and a 40 MSa/s sampling rate per channel, it is able to generate complex arbitrary waveforms with up to 16,000 data points, which can be stored for repeat play in nonvolatile memory.
This 33120A generator excels in the generation of arbitrary waveforms such as biomedical signals (e.g., cardiac waveforms or simulated transducer outputs), due in large part to its deep memory and flexible editing capabilities. On-board modulation capabilities such as AM, FM, FSK and burst, enable dynamic changes to be made both with external timing and to internal sources. The 33120A also incorporates an on-board function for sweeping between two frequencies, either linearly or logarithmically. Complete ease of operation is provided for at the front panel and by the large knobs and keypad is able to change test parameters directly. In addition, voltage inputs can be displayed in Vp-p, Vrms, or dBm as it is built into the system.
The 33120A also supports system integration with GPIB (IEEE-488) interface, in addition to the standard RS-232 interface, which also supports SCPI-programmable commands to automate a test set-up. The phase-lock option (Option 001) adds the ability to synchronize the device with external clock signals or multiple units operating at the same time. The TCXO timebase increases frequency stability to ± 4 ppm/year. Software packages like IntuiLink and BenchLink Arb support the design and transfer of waveforms, enabling PC-based editing and direct downloading into the generator.
The Agilent/Keysight 33120A guarantees accuracy to within ±1% for amplitude and ±2% for offset with overvoltage and short-circuit protection. A high-throughput setup is offered by fast configuration times of 30 ms for a frequency change and 100 ms for an arbitrary waveform recall.
