AutomationDirect BX-DM1E-18ED13-D Programmable Logic Controller
The AutomationDirect BX-DM1E-18ED13-D is a multi-functional programmable logic controller that uses the Do-more! DM1 technology. The Do-more! DM1 technology makes this all-in-one unit a self-contained automation system that has a processor, power supply, and various combinations of digital (discrete) and analog input and output points. It is designed to provide flexible control of many types of industrial machines and processes at a lower cost than most other PLCs and with the capability to meet the needs of applications in manufacturing, material handling, and machine control.
As a member of the BRX family of PLCs, the BX-DM1E-18ED13-D is equipped with a number of standard features that make it ideal for use in a variety of industrial automation applications. It has ten (10) discrete inputs that can be configured as either sink or source inputs and have high-speed counter capability at rates up to 250 kHz. In addition, the unit has eight (8) discrete sinking outputs, four (4) of which can operate in a high-speed pulse train mode. The BX-DM1E-18ED13-D also has one (1) channel of analog input that can be configured to read either voltage- or current-based signals and one (1) channel of analog output that can be configured to send out either voltage- or current-based signals.
In terms of communication, the Programmable Logic Controller is well-equipped with three (3) communication ports. These include a software selectable RS-232/485 serial port, a 10/100 Mbit Ethernet port for connection to a plant-wide network, and a USB Type B programming port. The unit also has a micro SD card slot that can be used for data logging, firmware updates and program storage. The unit operates using a 12-24 VDC power supply and can have up to eight additional expansion modules added to increase the number of digital and analog I/O points available.
The BX-DM1E-18ED13-D is well-suited for use in motion control applications due to its ability to process and generate high-speed digital pulses used to drive motors (quadrature count, pulse train, etc.). The unit's Ethernet port also allows for the use of various industrial protocols, including Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, and MQTT, to communicate with factory networking equipment and IIoT devices. The Logic Controller is programmed using the Do-more! Designer software, which provides a robust platform for developing sophisticated control strategies and therefore provides a good base for the development of more complex automation projects.
