Keysight/Agilent 34922A Armature Multiplexer for 34980A
The Keysight 34922A 70-Channel Armature Multiplexer is an extremely versatile switch matrix module that has been specifically designed for use with the Keysight 34980A Multifunction Switch / Measure Unit. It provides the ability to provide multiple functions (such as switching) from a very large number of switches at a relatively fast scan time of 100 channels per second. Due to this versatility, it will be useful for many different types of data acquisition applications used in industrial automation and test systems.
The 34922A is divided into two sections; each section contains thirty-five latching armature relay channels, which may be connected using a variety of wiring schemes, including two-wire and four-wire. In most cases no additional wiring is needed since the modules' wiring scheme matches the 34980A's wiring scheme. There are also eight analog bus relays on the back side of the module that can be connected to either one of the twenty-seven channels in either of the two banks to allow the user to directly measure voltage or resistance via the unit's digital multimeter.
In addition to operating the unit as two forty-seven channel, two-wire multiplexers or as a forty-seven channel, four-wire multiplexer, the unit can also be operated as seventy, two-wire multiplexers. When four-wire resistance measurements are made, the unit automatically selects matching source and sense channels in both banks.
The maximum voltage rating of all of the relays in the unit is 300 volts, and the maximum current is 1 ampere. The carry current for the relays is 2 amperes. Each relay in the unit is a latching armature-type relay and includes a relay counter so that relay failure can be tracked. To prevent shorting signals when the module is being scanned, all relays are switched using a break-before-make method. However, each relay in the unit can be individually controlled to allow for arbitrary relay closure at any time.
The 34922A connectors provided on the module are 78-pin D-sub connectors that are compatible with standard cable assemblies, Keysight 34922T terminal blocks, and mass interconnects.
The module includes an integral safety interlock that automatically disconnects analog bus relays from the internal analog buses of the 34980A whenever the D-sub connector end of the cable assembly is removed. This feature increases safety by preventing damage caused by accidental exposure of electrical connections.
