Keysight/Agilent 34923A Reed Multiplexer for 34980A
The Keysight 34923A was designed exclusively for use in conjunction with the Keysight 34980A Multifunction Switch / Measure Unit. It is a high-speed reed multiplexer module that will provide switch flexibility for automated test and data acquisition applications.
The 34923A can be used as either a 2-wire (40) or a 1-wire (80) channel multiplexer. Users are able to mix both 2-wire and 4-wire configurations using the same board and make no additional wiring connections. Each channel is connected using a non-latching reed relay. Users will achieve scan rates up to 500 channels/sec depending upon their application requirements. The 34923A is rated for switching voltages up to 150Vpk and amperage levels up to .5 ampere but may have a maximum of 1.5 amperes when operating in a "carry" mode. As such, the 34923A is ideal for most industrial applications where general-purpose scanning is necessary.
The 34923A contains two separate banks of reed switches, each having eight armature analog bus relays. These relays enable users to connect any of the module's channels to the internal digital multimeter located within the system's analog bus(es) by way of either voltage or resistance measurements.
The module has standard 50-pin D-sub connectors, which can easily integrate with existing cable stock, terminal blocks, etc. In addition to facilitating single-channel resistance measurements, the instrument also automatically connects Channel 'n' on Bank One with Channel ('n'+20) on Bank Two, thereby greatly simplifying setup for four-wire resistance measurements.
Additionally, the relay counter built into the module will help indicate if any of the module's relays have failed due to wear. An additional safety enhancement was added to the 34923A. If the D-sub connector end is exposed, i.e., removed from its mating socket, the analog bus relays will immediately open, protecting the user from electrical shock hazards while working inside test racks.
Regardless of whether you configure your unit as a 40-channel two-wire multiplexer, an 80-channel one-wire multiplexer, or a 20-channel four-wire multiplexer, the Keysight 34923A provides a cost-effective means for obtaining high-speed channel scanning for those automation and/or measurement tasks requiring fast and repeatable switching capabilities. Using multiple types of channels (2-wire & 4-wire) on the same module requires no jumper wires and minimizes wiring errors and setup times.
