Keysight 34972A Data Acquisition/Switch Unit
The 34972A from Keysight is a data acquisition and switch module for accurate measurement and signal routing in manufacturing, R&D, and industrial applications. It is a 6½-digit (22-bit) internal digital multimeter (DMM) in a 3-slot mainframe with high-accuracy measurement on 11 types of inputs, including temperature (thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors), dc/ac voltage, resistance (2- and 4-wire), frequency, period, and dc/ac current. It offers universal inputs with internal conversion routines, preventing the need for external signal conditioning and keeping the setup simple and low-cost.
The 34972A has modern connectivity for remote monitoring and control using standard browsers. Users can connect remotely using USB 2.0 or Gigabit LAN connectivity, and the built-in web interface allows for measurement configuration, scans to be initiated, and real-time monitored data displays over the network. Users can log data in standalone modes, without having to attach a computer, using a USB flash drive and achieving data logging without any limits to memory. The unit is bundled with BenchVue DAQ software that makes test setup easy and viewing real-time measurements and data analysis capable in a Windows environment.
The 34972A accommodates up to eight plug-in modules in three slots with versatility for general-purpose applications. The modules can include multiplexers (34901A, 34902A,34908A), matrix switches (34904A), RF multiplexers (34905A, 34906A) and multifunction modules (34907A) that include digital I/O as well as analog outputs and event counting per channel. A scanning speed can be set to 250 channels every second with relay modules and can measure mixed measurements on one scan, and configured per channel. The advanced features of the unit can also scale functions, use user-defined engineering labels, and configure alarms that are TTL output that can be triggered to control external devices.
Applications range from environmental monitoring and component testing to signal routing in RF or high-speed digital systems. Relay maintenance tracking and isolation up to 300 V enhance reliability, while its compact half-rack design optimizes bench or rack space.
Designed with scalability as a core aspect, the 34972A supports hybrid configurations that combine measurement, switching, and control modules to address the changing requirements of testing.
