Keysight/Agilent 34906A RF Multiplexer for the 34970A/34972A
The 34906A manufactured by Keysight/Agilent is a 2-input (dual) 4-channel RF multiplexer that connects directly to either the 34970A or 34972A mainframe in a data acquisition/switch system. It was specifically engineered as an RF-switching solution and provides a path to route high-frequency and/or pulsed signals from your Device Under Test to instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, etc. Both of the independent banks have 4 channels with a common shield on both of the channels of the bank and are connected via a center conductor that can be switched. The direct SMB connection has a usable bandwidth of 2 GHz, but when utilizing the BNC-to-SMB adapter provided with the module, the usable bandwidth drops to 1 GHz. Therefore, the module can be used for 75-ohm RF signal paths at one or both of these frequencies depending upon what type of connectors are being utilized.
The Keysight 34906A includes the multiplexing module itself and 10 SMB-to-BNC cables. In order to take advantage of the full 2 GHz bandwidth, you will need to connect the input signals directly to the SMB inputs on the module. On the other hand, if you choose to utilize the BNC adapters supplied with the module, you will effectively cap your usable bandwidth at 1 GHz. Since there are two banks of 1x4 RF multiplexers, they may be cascaded together in a single Keysight mainframe to create a single-ended 16:1 RF multiplexer without stubbing. This capability reduces the amount of rack space required for large-scale applications and simplifies signal routing complexity since no additional switches are needed outside of the Keysight 34906A modules. A functional test certificate is also supplied with each module for performance verification purposes.
This Keysight/Agilent RF Multiplexer Module is well suited for routing RF/video signals (antenna feeds), broadband data streams, and high-speed digital interfaces (telecommunications/broadcast video). The 75-ohm characteristic impedance of the module matches most telecommunication/broadcast video/HSDI standards. Channel selection is controlled programmatically from the Keysight DAQ mainframe, reducing the number of times manual cable swaps are required during testing, thereby increasing test throughput. Typical applications where this module would be employed include semiconductor wafer level probing, wireless module calibration, production line verification of RF components, design validation, and end-of-line functional testing.
