Keysight/Agilent 34938A Switch for the 34980A
The Keysight 34938A (formerly from Agilent) offers an economical 20-channel Form A switch module designed specifically for use with the Keysight 34980A Multifunction Switch/Measure Unit. Each of the twenty single-pole single-throw (SPST) relays is capable of operating at 5 amps. The 34938A module contains general-purpose switches capable of performing high-current switching functions; they are rated for 250 VAC, 30 VDC per channel, and have continuous load ratings of 5 amps with a maximum peak rating of 8 amps. The relays contained in the 34938A are also capable of providing up to 150 W of dissipation per relay; therefore, the switch module may be used for power-line switching, product power-cycling, or other applications where you need to drive external solenoids or industrial relays. The 34938A utilizes a standard 50-pin D-sub connector, which allows for easy connection to various types of cables and terminal blocks (e.g., 34938T), as well as various types of mass interconnect solutions (e.g., Y1135A, Y1136A, Y1139A).
The Keysight/Agilent 34938A is commonly selected by industrial automation engineers because it provides a means to easily control indicator lamps, drive status panels, and provide power to devices being tested. In addition, the ability to define a user-defined failure state for each relay when there is a loss of AC power ensures consistent operation in case of an unanticipated loss of AC power during testing.
Unlike general-purpose relay cards that include multiple channels and/or are optimized for applications requiring frequency-related functions or signal routing applications, the Keysight 34938A is optimized for applications requiring high-power discrete switching functions. The Keysight 34938A is comprised of twenty completely isolated SPST relay channels. As such, it makes wire bundling easier for devices requiring on/off control (i.e., heating elements, motor starter contacts, etc.) individually.
When the Keysight 34938A is used in conjunction with a Keysight 34980A mainframe, it provides a highly reliable and densely packed source of SPST relay channels. Therefore, it is particularly suited for application areas including functional test systems, burn-in operations, and automated assembly lines. Finally, its compact design and simple-to-use D-sub connectors will minimize your integration time while ensuring there is no potential confusion regarding the electrical isolation between high-current paths and measure path(s).
