Keysight/Agilent 34952A Multifunction Module
The Keysight/Agilent 34952A multifunction module is an earth-referenced peripheral module to be mounted in the backplane of the 34980A switch/measure unit. This device has a combination of thirty-two bidirectional digital I/O lines, a 100 kHz gated counter/totalizer, and two ± 12V analog output channels. Thus, the Keysight 34952A can replace several discrete modules, which would require much greater rack space. The Multifunction Module provides a wide range of applications, including product quality testing (production), as well as laboratory research applications. Since the device includes both analog output and digital input/output capabilities, it also helps to simplify overall system design.
Each of the eight digital I/O ports are arranged such that they can be treated as either a group of 8 individual digital I/O channels or a group of 32 digital I/O channels. This arrangement allows for maximum flexibility when integrating the 34952A with other digital circuits or logic families. All TTL-compatible digital inputs have built-in pull-up resistors to +5 V, while all digital outputs are capable of sinking up to 400 mA per channel. Therefore, these digital output signals can directly drive relays, lamps, and solenoid valves.
In addition to providing digital input and output functions, the Multifunction Module also has a 100 KHz totalizing function available. Using this totalizing function, you can count pulses where the pulses may be detected by either their rising or falling edges. In addition, there are two gating inputs that allow you to precisely select when you want the totalizing function to start counting and stop counting. These gating inputs are especially useful when measuring flow rates using flow meters, position using encoders, or frequency of operation using counters.
To generate analog output signals, the 34952A from Keysight/Agilent uses a 16-bit D/A converter to produce two separate analog output channels. Each of the two analog output channels is programmable over a full-scale output voltage range of -12 V to +12 V with a maximum load current capability of 10 mA. Therefore, the two analog output channels can be used for supply biasing voltages, supply reference set-point values for power supplies, or for controlling analog actuators in closed-loop control systems.
The Keysight 34952A has one 50-pin mini-D-sub connector that is connected to the backplane bus of the 34980A switch/measure unit. In addition, there is an optional 34952T terminal strip connector that provides additional wiring options.
