Keysight/Agilent L4437A 32-Channel General Purpose Switch
The Keysight/Agilent L4437A General Purpose Switch is an easy-to-use, reliable, and flexible solution to route signals and switch loads. The L4437A has 28 Form C (SPDT) relays and 4 Form A (SPST) high current relays. Each Form C relay is rated at 300V DC, 1 amp AC, and 50 watts, while each Form A relay is rated at 30 volts DC, 250 volts AC, 5 amps AC, and 150 watts. This switch supports the LXI protocol, which allows users to monitor and control the switch remotely from anywhere over the internet via a browser-based graphical user interface. With LXI there is no need for additional hardware to distribute testing or monitoring over a local area network.
Users may also employ the L4437A as an engineering tool to turn on/off devices under test, to operate solenoids or external power relays, or to illuminate indicator lamps. Each of these relays is an armature-latched type, thus maintaining the position of each relay even if no voltage is applied to the coil of each relay. With the addition of a built-in sequence function, engineers can develop specific custom switch configurations and assign names to those configurations.
Engineers can also program a switch configuration to be triggered by an event such as another instrument closing. External triggers allow the closure of multiple channels at precisely the same time for applications requiring precise timing in multi-point test configurations. Optional terminal blocks provide pads for installing snubbing circuits to protect the contacts from reactive loads and extend the lifetime of each relay. When using this option, simultaneous channel switching capabilities ensure precise timing in multi-point test configurations.
In terms of connections, there are two rugged 50-pin D-Sub connectors that have gold-plated contacts. Users have three options for connecting to the switches: detachable terminal block assemblies with strain relief, D-Sub cables, or mass interconnect solutions. As a user, you will appreciate the onboard intelligence of the General Purpose Switch. There are two onboard sensors that track usage of each relay so you can estimate how many cycles each relay will last before needing replacement. There is also a thermal sensor that monitors temperature levels within the switch. If excessive heat develops, the sensor alerts you. Programming environments are supported by software drivers developed for Keysight switches, so integrating the L4437A into your test framework should be relatively simple.
