Keysight/Agilent L4450A Digital I/O with Memory and Counter
The Keysight/Agilent L4450A (a 64-bit digital I/O device) offers 64 bidirectional digital lines that can be divided into 8 eight-line groups. Each group has programmable input sensitivity (input threshold), supports most all logic families, and each group has either active drive or open-drain outputs with optional pull-up resistors. The Keysight L4450A also offers two banks of memory (each containing 128k bytes of storage). These two memory banks allow users to generate stimuli and capture responses up to 10 MHz and provide independent direction. Users may also connect via Ethernet and access a web interface for easy remote configuration and monitoring. Additionally, the Digital I/O provides two 10 MHz counter channels for measuring frequency, period, duty cycle, pulse width, and totalizing events using user-defined gates.
In terms of both testing and automation in the industrial automation field, the Keysight/Agilent L4450A is capable of generating and detecting complex digital waveforms synchronized with high-precision timing. The device can also define custom handshake protocols used for synchronization during data transfer with the DUT (Device Under Test). The L4450A's pattern memory will store and replay multiple digital waveforms continuously or will store and capture a single waveform in burst mode for use in logic analysis. Additionally, the dual counters may be configured as event counters, frequency monitors, or totalizers for use in production line diagnostics. A separate 20MHz divide-by-n clock output is available for timing purposes. Engineers can utilize the Digital I/O to simultaneously output a 32-bit digital pattern on one bank while capturing a 32-bit response on another bank, which will greatly reduce the amount of time required for performing mixed-signal tests and automated verification of digital subsystems.
Users can integrate their applications utilizing the Keysight/Agilent L4450A's software interfaces, including IVI-COM and LabVIEW drivers, for rapid inclusion into automated test systems. Also available is the LXI Multi-Vendor Ecosystem. The web interface of the unit facilitates remote channel configuration, pattern buffer loading, and counter monitoring. This compact and Ethernet-connected instrument is designed for distributed test architectures where space and remote access are important. In addition to the versatility of the digital I/O, pattern memory, and counter functions included in this single unit, it provides reduced instrument counts and wiring complexity, suited for digital functional test, data acquisition, and industrial digital control.
