Keysight/Agilent U2802A Thermocouple Input Signal Conditioner
Designed specifically for applications needing high-accuracy thermal measurements, the U2802A was made to take low-level thermocouple outputs (typically <100mV) and amplify them to a robust 10V output for easy interpretation by data acquisition systems. In addition, it connects directly to other Keysight DAQs (U2355A & U2356A) via SCSI cable, allowing for multi-point thermal monitoring. The package contains two 68-pin female SCSI connectors, two 34-pin screw terminals, and one 24-pin screw terminal, providing multiple mounting locations to securely connect your sensors. Calibration constants stored in an onboard EEPROM are based upon procedures traceable back to NIST, thus preventing the need for repetitive setup after power loss. Additionally, this module provides open thermocouple detection, a zeroing function, and an isothermal terminal block to provide a common temperature point at each of the 31 input connections.
In both thermocouple mode and direct voltage mode, each channel may be operated individually, with the direct voltage mode being able to accept inputs up to 10v. The U2802A may support up to 8 different thermocouples defined by the NIST ITS-90 standard: B, E, J, K, N, R, S, and T. Also included is a built-in thermistor that will perform automatic cold junction compensation when temperatures vary due to ambient temperature changes. The total current used by the Input Signal Conditioner does not exceed 750 mA from a +/−12 VDC source. Since no additional amplification circuitry is needed, the U2802A simplifies system design while maintaining the required accuracy for use in various industrial applications.
The U2802A is useful for temperature mapping on the factory floor, in laboratory settings (educational labs/scientific research), etc. It has been integrated into several popular development platforms, including Keysight's VEE software, MathWorks' MATLAB R2007a, National Instruments' LabView, and Microsoft's Visual Studio, to allow automation engineers numerous ways to program their test equipment. Hybrid configurations using both thermocouple and voltage inputs can be created without additional hardware. Its rugged SCSI connectivity, along with the ease of connecting sensors with the screw terminal blocks, makes the Keysight/Agilent U2802A an economical, user-friendly means of accomplishing multi-channel thermal measurement applications.
