Agilent G1313A Autosampler
Agilent G1313A Autosampler is a very precise component of 1100 Series liquid chromatography (LC) systems that is designed to support automation in the handling of samples in analytical processes. It is built to interface easily with any of the components of the Agilent 1100 Series, HP 1050 Series instruments, or any other liquid chromatography systems that support compatible remote-control interfaces. Either the Agilent 1100 Series controller module or ChemStation software is used to operate the autosampler, ensuring synchronized operation in configurations of chromatography systems.
The G1313A autosampler supports several sample rack configurations, including a standard full-size tray holding 100 1.8 ml vials, as well as interchangeable half-size trays for either 40 1.8 ml vials or 15 6 ml vials. The transport mechanism is equipped with a gripper arm that is guided by optical sensors and encoders, allowing for pickup and placement. This mechanism uses X-Z-Theta motion for precise vial positioning. The six-port valve is driven by the hybrid stepper motor to govern the sample injection that passes the mobile phase through the metering device during analysis or bypasses it during sampling to minimize carry-over.
The G1313A allows variable injecting volumes using interchangeable metering heads: analytical head, standard, handles 0.1–100 µl, and preparative heads supply 900 µl using 400-bar max pressures. Automated sampling steps in the sequence consist of valve switching, position of the needle, and volume drawing, optionally complemented by wash steps for the needle in order to avoid contamination. Its Early Maintenance Feedback (EMF) system monitors critical parts such as the movement of the injection valve and the needle and warns whenever usage levels defined by the user are reached in order to facilitate maintenance planning.
The electrical interfaces include GPIB, CAN bus, RS-232C, and remote interfaces, incorporating strict safety procedures for module synchronization and data communication. Upgrade of the system is by the use of the Agilent ChemStation or the control module, dual-system design included for upgrade without system interruption. Technical parameters emphasize injection precision (<0.5% RSD for 5–100 µl measurements), low carry-over (<0.1%), and acceptance of viscosities up to 50 cp. Sensor-initiated system start-up and servo close-loop control ensure smooth operation in high-throughput laboratories, and the system is thus a high-performance system for laboratories requiring reproducible automated sample handling in HPLC or LC-MS applications.
