The Rohde & Schwarz CMW500 is a convenient Wideband Radio Communication Tester. This integrated test platform is designed to evaluate wireless communication devices across the development and production stages of their lifecycle. In addition to 5G NR non-standalone (NSA) modes and non-cellular standards, the platform supports a broad range of cellular standards. For multi-technology verification, the platform combines protocol, radio frequency (RF), and end-to-end (E2E) application testing under a single device in realistic network environments.
The CMW500 includes LTE-Advanced Pro feature sophistication with uplink and downlink aggregation of up to 8 DL components and 4x4 MIMO configurations and the ability to support LTE-U/LTE-LAA. The device emulates the base stations and core networks of the cellular and non-cellular technologies with the ability to model the handovers, the scenarios of interference, and the network transition. With 5G testing, the CMW500 together with the R&S CMX500 enables signaling tests for the sub-6 GHz (FR1) and mmWave (FR2) bands. The built-in fading simulator emulates 3GPP profiles for realistic reproduction of the conditions of the channel for the accurate analysis of receiver performance.
Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, automotive C-V2X verification, emergency services testing (eCall/ERA-GLONASS), and user experience study for Voice over LTE (VoLTE), video streaming, and battery life are some of the applications. The platform supports end-to-end (E2E) Internet Protocol (IP) throughput testing, over-the-top (OTT) application testing, and in-device coexistence analysis to identify interference between concurrent wireless standards. The R&S CMWrun sequencer software supports automated workflows, thus optimizing test runs and generating detailed reports.
The CMW500 reduces the time required for calibration and verification processes in production settings by supporting multi-DUT testing of up to eight devices. It satisfies 3GPP/3GPP2 conformity criteria and offers shielded chambers, such as the TS7124 for radiation measurements. Furthermore, protocol-layer logfile analysis is supported by add-on tools like CMWmars, and test scenario design is made easier without the requirement for programming with CMWcards.
