Tektronix VX4240 Waveform Digitizer and Analyzer Module
The VX4240 from Tektronix is a highly sophisticated VXIbus-based module that performs as a high-resolution waveform digitizing unit as well as a powerful waveform analyzer. A digital-to-analog converter that is capable of 10 MHz sampling is included in this module, providing a complete measurement system. Capable of acquiring and measuring a wide variety of signals between DC and 5 MHz, this unit is very useful for performing detailed waveform measurements right on a VXI mainframe. In addition to its many standard signal conditioning capabilities, the module has over 40 built-in measurement algorithms, or "analysis routines," allowing for complex data manipulation and/or calculation without having to constantly communicate back and forth with the controller of the system.
The features of the VX4240 include a variety of waveform parameter measurements, such as rise/fall timings, pulse widths, frequencies, and RMS values. The VX4240's input stage is likewise very adaptable, enabling users to specify programmable voltage ranges ranging from ±0.5V to ±100V and offering either virtual or calibrated ranging to optimize resolution. Users can choose between either differential or single-ended modes, set the module to either AC or DC couple their input signal, and choose between 50 ohms and 1 MOhm of input impedance. The trigger circuitry of the VX4240 is also very robust, allowing for multiple trigger sources such as an external TTL signal, a programmable voltage threshold, and a VXIbus trigger source. In addition, the circuitry allows for logical AND/OR combinations to further enhance user acquisition control.
In numerous application environments such as, but not limited to, production line testing, avionics system verification, and detailed R&D analysis, the VX4240 will be essential due to its ability to automatically collect and analyze data. Due to the module's ability to process data onboard, it greatly reduces the amount of data to be transferred to the main controller, thereby enhancing the system's overall throughput. The VX4240 is delivered as a C-size, single-slot card and contains all necessary data cables to provide a complete solution for implementing high-performance waveform acquisition and analysis in a standard VXI-based system.
