The Keysight E8491B IEEE-1394 PC Link to VXI uses a C-size FireWire interface device for VXI mainframes. It contains an uninterrupted PC linking via bus. It is a one-slot message-based commander designed for high-speed control and movement.
The unit uses a logical type address of zero, and it normally operates as the resource manager for Slot 0. The E8491B PC Link FireWire supports high-performance block transfers with sustained throughput across 16-bit and 32-bit modes. D16 read speed reaches 8600 KBytes/s, while D16 write speed reaches 10200 KBytes/s. The module also supports faster 32-bit transfer operation. D32 read speed reaches 12000 KBytes/s, and D32 write speed reaches 14000 KBytes/s. The unit achieves high-speed performance through controlled impedance twisted-pair wiring. Its low 200 mV signal level improves transmission efficiency across the FireWire cable.
The differential communication also increases noise protection within electrically active test environments. The unit has a 4.5 m cable for connection between the PC and mainframe. The interface can identify warm plug-ins deprived of shutting down the host computer.
The unit consisted of an 001 option that provides an PCI host adapter card, which is OHCI-based. It contains 3 exterior ports for flexible connectivity with compatible devices.
The adapter card can also provide up to 1.5 amps at 12 volts. The host system is Windows 7 using the PC-based controller operation. The maximum data transfer rate is 14 MB/s with 16-bit mode. The peak data transfer rate is also 32-bit 14 MB/s. The E8491B VXI backplane burst rate reaches 27 MB/s in 32-bit mode and 53 MB/s in 64-bit mode. These performance figures help the module support measurement systems with heavier backplane communication requirements. It maintains message-based commander functionality while coordinating VXI instruments.
The trigger input accepts TTL, ECL, CMOS, and ±30 V signal levels. Its input load is 55 k-ohms and 50 pF for compatible trigger interfacing. The trigger input supports a 2 MHz maximum rate and a 200 ns pulse width. The trigger delay is rated at 300 ns for controlled external synchronization. The trigger output supports a maximum high level of +30 V.
