Tektronix VX4356 Relay Switching Module
Tektronix' VX4356 is an individual unit that represents a C-sized VXIbus relay switching module, built for use in automated test and signal routing applications. The VX4356 contains twenty independent double-pole double-throw (DPDT) relays in one slot of a VXIbus mainframe which provides a high-density switching option for systems such as Tek/CDS IAC. The relays in this unit may be independently programmed to open or close via a program-controlled command; the entire relay bank may operate simultaneously. Commands are issued using software and may specify delay time and dwell time of relay closures. These parameters may range from zero up to 65,535 milliseconds. Data communication occurs when ASCII commands are transmitted over the VXIbus.
Some of the key characteristics of this relay switching module include a front panel LED display of relay status where twenty green LEDs provide information regarding whether the twenty associated relays are either open or closed. A user configurable logical address will be assigned to the module by means of a hexagonal rotary switch on the back panel. The module will support standard VXIbus message based protocols. Key specifications of the module include relay contacts rated for 250VAC or 48VDC and a maximum current of 5Amps. The module also has a number of additional features that help ensure signal quality including low thermal offset, crosstalk between channels is minimized, and a high degree of electrical isolation exists across the frequency spectrum. The module requires no special power or cooling other than what is provided by the VXIbus.
This relay switching module is intended for use in various types of automated test equipment (ATE) for the purpose of signal routing, functional testing and load switching. Because of its ability to be programmed and the high density of relays, this module is well suited for applications that require repetitive, accurate switching sequences to be performed under computer control. The VX4356 is fully compatible with VXIbus mainframes such as the VX1400 and serves as a fundamental component in the construction of highly scalable and flexible test and measurement systems in a variety of industrial, aerospace and research/development environments.
