Thorlabs PAT9000B Polarization Analysis System
The Thorlabs PAT9000B polarization analysis system is a modular instrument for precise PMD and PDL characterization. It provides complete Jones Matrix Eigen-analysis based measurements for fiber and component evaluation. This unit operates across NIR and FIR covering 960 to 1160 and 1200 to 1700 nm. Its high sensitivity detection supports input powers from -70 to +80 dBm at the polarimeter. The PAT9000B analysis system measures differential group delay from 1 fs to 100 ps at telecom wavelengths. It features 3 complementary PMD methods including recommended JME plus arc angle and three Stokes scanning. The unit allows maximum insertion loss of 55 to 60 decibels to accommodate highly attenuating components without compromising accuracy.
It performs PDL and polarization dependent gain measurements with a range from 0 to 50 decibels. Its PDL repeatability of 0.02 decibels and dynamic range 55 decibels support precise characterization. The integrated PAN9300 polarimeter within the Thorlabs PAT9000B resolves state of polarization and degree of polarization simultaneously. Its eElevation and ellipticity angles are resolved with quarter degree accuracy and Stokes parameters achieve millesimal coefficient precision. The DOP accuracy of this analysis system 2% maintained for input powers above -40 dBm. Its turbo acquisition software enables measurement rates up to two hundred SOP or DOP values per second. Its motorized polarizer delivers extinction ratios above fifty decibels with insertion loss below one point five decibels. The unit’s rotation stage offers step resolution of 0.18 degree across nearly 180 degrees.
The PAT9000B offers return loss above 30 decibels and its FC or FC APC connectivity ensure robust integration within fiber test setups. Its optical head accepts FC interfaces and supports free space operation through a 3 mm aperture. Optional 10 to 17 decibel attenuators permit characterization of high-power sources while preserving detector linearity. The unit’s integrated interfaces include IEEE 488 printer port and external VGA plus mouse and keyboard connectors. Its internal storage greater than 2 GB with floppy support enables long term logging of measurement campaigns. Three analog output channels allow hardware control inside automated test stands and feedback-based polarization stabilization schemes. Its line operation from 115 or 240 V at standard mains frequency simplifies laboratory deployment.
