VIAVI IFR6000 Avionics Test Set
The IFR6000 from VIAVI (formerly from Aeroflex) is a high-end portable tester used for the complete verification and performance analysis of all forms of airborne radio navigation and surveillance systems. The IFR6000 is a highly accurate simulator that will allow a single technician to thoroughly test the transponder function of their aircraft, including Mode A/C/S, DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) systems, TCAS I and II units, and most recently, ADS-B and UAT (Universal Access Transceiver) type equipment. The IFR6000 provides technicians a valuable tool for conducting line maintenance tests directly at the aircraft or for providing detailed bench testing in the Avionics Workshop to ensure all of their aircraft's electronic equipment is compliant with aviation regulations such as FAA FAR Part 43.
A number of measurement capabilities are included in this unit, such as ERP (Effective Radiated Power), MTL (Receiver Sensitivity), and detailed pulse timing analysis. Additionally, it has built-in signal generators, which provide adjustable RF output to support testing using either the provided directional antenna for radiative testing or by connecting a coaxial cable directly to the equipment under test. The IFR6000 also can be configured to support testing different transponder classes through user-selectable files. The Avionics Test Set's interface is very easy to understand, and the key verification parameters for each test are displayed on dedicated screens for DME, transponder, altitude encoder, and TCAS functions to streamline the testing process.
The IFR6000 was engineered to be used in the field and is designed to fit in a compact form factor while still delivering a great deal of functionality. It includes a long-life internal battery, which provides the ability to operate for several hours without being connected to external AC power and automatically manages its own power consumption. The test set meets the global technical standards for Mode S Elementary and Enhanced Surveillance as defined by Eurocontrol. It is designed to operate over a wide temperature range and provides reliable performance in environments ranging from hangar temperatures to those found on the aircraft ramp. The IFR6000 is able to perform many tests in one unit, thus greatly reducing the amount of time and equipment required to complete routine and mandatory aviation safety inspections.
